For one day and one day only, I’m going to be a Democrat. I’m casting a vote for Joe Biden on Super Tuesday.

After I left the Republican Party last month, I had resigned myself to sitting out the Utah Primary this year. There was no viable alternative to Trump on the Republican ballot, and even the “moderates” on the Democratic ballot were too progressive for me to feel good about checking their box.
But the rise of Bernie Sanders’ viability in the Democratic Party has me greatly concerned. And, with Joe Biden’s decisive victory in South Carolina, he has a chance to stop a Bernie Sanders candidacy. If enough Democrats are really serious about rejecting Bernie and his socialistic vision, I will be happy to step forward and help them in that effort.
This isn’t an endorsement, it isn’t a lesser-of-two-evils calculation, and it isn’t me saying I’m likely to vote for Biden in the general election (I’m not). This is me making a decision to stand beside moderate and centrist Democrats who appear willing to make an effort to reject marginal and radical thinking. This is an effort I can support. This is me putting my money where my mouth is. I’m #NeverBernie, and I’m willing to step in and do something about it, and not just flap my mouth.
This country needs two healthy and viable political parties. Much of what has occurred with my former political party has resulted because the Democrats have, for a long time now, refused to moderate themselves and offer our center-right country a viable alternative to Republicans when they go off the deep end.
Much of my writing and political effort in the last four years has been focused on re-centering our politics back into the sphere of natural law, and to reel back America’s movements and parties from the margins of political thought. Tomorrow may very well be a pivotal opportunity to make a powerful statement against marginal and radical thinking, against socialism, and against ideas that abandon the founding vision. I choose to stand and take part in making that statement. It’s never likely to happen again, but I choose to be a Democrat for a day, and perhaps have my vote count for something more than it has in a long time.
