Crafting and supporting laws that target criminal intent, such as properly worded red flag laws, can protect the rights of the law-abiding from infringement.

I believe in constitutionally limited government. But we can’t forget the ordered part of ordered liberty. Government, and the crafting of laws, is necessary to a certain extent in order to safeguard liberty from the oppression of chaos.
Supporters of the 2nd Amendment need to find laws and proposals that we CAN support. The chaos and fear caused by the uptick in mass shootings is a problem that needs solutions.
If we entrench ourselves, believing that any and every idea is a surrender, we will likely die gloriously on the hill of our convictions but ultimately accomplish nothing because we would have surrendered our place at the table of discussion.
We should honestly consider red flag laws. They are one of the first proposals that, if done correctly, focus on the criminals planning the crimes instead of on the weapons of law-abiding citizens.
Any law can be abused. But that fact should invite careful and deliberate consideration, not a dismissal of any and all ideas.
There’s no harm in being part of the discussion. If the language of a red flag law ultimately proves to be as bad as some fear it might, we can still oppose it.
But as I’ve said before. I think these red flag laws are low hanging fruit that are going to get a lot of support across the country.
What worries me is the distinct possibility that, if we refuse to participate, the red flag laws that get passed will be crafted by Democrats with no input from gun owners. Then, we really would have reason to worry.
