Our political conflict can often be boiled down to the stark differences in how Karl Marx and Thomas Jefferson viewed history. And, their different beliefs about the role of government in crafting the future.

This post is a brief summary accompanied by a link to an article written by Justin Stapley for the Federalist Coalition, a 501(c)(4) non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to promote and educate Americans on the principles of federalism. One of the assertions I’ve often made in both casual and in-depth political conversation is that much of our modern dysfunction results from trying to infuse Marxist ideas into a Jeffersonian model of government. This assertion not only refers to the folly of mixed economies. but also the destruction of the social fabric of a nation that results from Marx’s sociological theories, such as conflict theory.

I believe that Marx and Jefferson are wholly incompatible. Their theories are based on premises of entirely different natures. And, their subscriptions for society are built on entirely different conclusions when it comes to human nature. I contend there really can’t be a proper balance or mixture that will not blow up in our faces. It’s simply a matter of philosophical chemistry.

It was on this topic that I wrote one of the articles that I am most proud of last March. I endeavored to really break down how differently Jefferson and Marx viewed history, government, and human reality. And, I endeavored to demonstrate why Jefferson’s approach is superior and how any level of Marxist infusion into a Jeffersonian model only serves to threaten that system.
