It would be difficult to find another piece of legislation originating in the United States House of Representatives which attempts to side-step the notions of federalism, state sovereignty, and unalienable rights more than the For the People Act of 2019.
This post is a brief summary accompanied by a link to an article written by Justin Stapley for the Federalist Coalition, a 501(c)(4) non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to promote and educate Americans on the principles of federalism.
In one of my recent newsletters, I discussed the possible consequences of giving Democrats the wheels of government and suggested that anyone seriously considering voting for them should consider carefully what a Democratic agenda might look like.
As part of this consideration, I suggested we can gain an idea of what kinds of things we might see under a Biden presidency by looking carefully at the political momentum of the Democratic Party and evaluating the legislative actions and proposals members of that party have supported in recent years.
One such proposed law, which happened to be the first proposed law to come out of the House of Representatives last year, is H.R. 1, 2019, also known as the For the People Act of 2019. Last year, I broke down this piece of legislation over at the Federalist Coalition and demonstrated how it would constitute a veritable assault on the notions of federalism, state sovereignty, and unalienable rights.
