The founders made it very clear. Impeachment is about the illegitimate use of legitimate powers. An act that would be appropriate if done in the public interest becomes impeachable if it appears it was done for personal interest and gain.
Article 2 is not a blank check. And, conservatives should stop arguing as if it is because what becomes normalized for one president becomes normalized for all presidents.
There will be another Democratic president. Whether next year, in four years, or eight, power always changes hands again. Let’s not create a presidency with a blank check Article 2 for a Sanders or Warren, or worse, to inhabit.
